A quaint hill station, nestled amidst the mighty Himalayas is Theog in Himachal Pradesh. A 141 km drive from Chandigarh will get you to this picturesque town where you will find quaint cottages with roofs blanketed with snow, built along the edge of the mountain cliffs providing breathtaking views of the pine and oak forests in the valley below! Theog is an ideal destination for a weekend getaway in the hills away from the chaos of the city. Cradled in the breathtakingly beautiful Kangra valley and set against the Dhauladhar mountain range lies Dharamshala which is one of the most beautiful hill stations of Himachal Pradesh. A 247 km drive from Chandigarh through twisty mountain passes will get you to the holy residence of the great Dalai Lama! Dharamshala is a home to a number of stunning monasteries and Buddhist cultural centers, apart from offering picturesque views of the majestic snow covered Dhauladhar ranges. While in the town, you could take a stroll and explore the quirks and beauty of this small town. If trekking is your thing, then either chose the easy Bhagsu Waterfall Trek or the challenging Dharamkot-Triund Trek!
About 180 km from the city is this postcard worthy hill station that offers stunning views of lush green or snow covered hills, verdant valleys, alpine meadows, and woods on the hilly slopes! Trek your way up to Hatu Peak which is the highest point in Narkanda that offers absolutely stunning views of the surrounding snow covered peaks. You could either pitch a tent under the starry night sky or stay at one of the guest houses. Apart from trekking, you could also visit the Mahamaya Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Kali and later on take a stroll through the apple orchards in Kotgarh!

Make your weekend getaway an adventurous one by visiting Bir Billing- the paragliding capital of our country, which is about 285 km from Chandigarh. The lush surroundings make Bir an ideal destination to feel one with nature, meditate, relax and soak in all the natural beauty and fresh, crisp mountain air! You could also hike up one of the many trekking trails and visit the peaceful Buddhist monasteries such as Drupka Kagyu and Sherab Ling. And ofcourse it would be a crime to leave Bir Billing without Paragliding or Handgliding to get a full view of the lush scapes below!
Misty valleys, cloud- hugging mountains, snow-capped hills covered in pine forests lies Kufri, which is one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in India for lovers of hills and nature. Around 128 km from Chandigarh, is this relatively quiet retreat where you can take part in skiing competitions and other activities such as tobogganing and even go-karting! Basically Kufri is where you should head to for a winter escape away from the hustle bustle of the city!
